Gary Neville Memorial Scholarship

John Gary Neville

Simply put, my dad loved music. He didn’t sing or play an instrument (other then a harmonica) but he was a DJ at heart, always coming up with these great mix tapes of 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s music. His favourite singer was Dean Martin and I can’t tell you the number of times that my dad would start to play one of Dean’s records (yes, records) to have my children dance and bop around to it at their home in King City. The story goes that when my dad was a young man and trying to decide what to do with the rest of his life he was considering pursuing a career in radio as a DJ. My grandparents felt that rock’n roll was not going to stay around so they pushed him into his career as an accountant. One of my dad’s greatest ambitions was to work as a DJ at 1050 CHUM and although he never worked there, he did work at another station up the road for a number of years. This bursary is to honour my father’s love of music, his dream of becoming a DJ and his respect for the industry.

If you are a current Radio/TV Broadcasting student at Algonquin College, Centennial College and Seneca College there are bursaries in Gary Nevilles memory.
